Fruit Ninja VR Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

You stand in a cobblestone pavilion holding a sword in each hand. Various launchers will send fruit and bombs into the air; the fruit should be cut, and the bombs should be avoided. Each of the game’s four modes build on that core to varying degrees of success, but it never gets very complicated. Cut fruit, don’t cut bombs, get a high score. Fruit Ninja VR is a simple VR game, but luckily it’s not a constricting one.

When I started the game, I realized I was only using my dominant hand. But what if I alternate hands with each slice? Or fully commit, standing side-on to my target like a fencer? Should I slice the watermelon laterally, or shish kebab through it? A bomb hangs in the air, surrounded by coconuts and strawberries. Do I hack at the sides? Circle my sword around the bomb, hitting the fruit in orbit? Are these objects rising and falling at different rates? If I wait, will the bomb drop faster and let me slice straight and unimpeded? The game provides targets, but you decide how to meet them.

One of the nice things about VR is that it allows for so much movement in play. Fruit Ninja VR is simple in an open way that allows for lots of different kinds of movement, making it great for VR beginners and anyone looking for an approachable arcade game.
