Other obligations have limited the time I have for comics and essays, both of which I’d like to return to. In the meantime, here is a review on an index card.

A review of Super Mario Sunshine on an illustrated index card.
Illustration:
Mario floats in the sky using a water-powered jetpack. Below, a Shine Sprite rests on a small platform above the water.
Text:
Super Mario Sunshine.
Score: 2 out of 5.
A big swing and a surprising miss. I love the tropical setting, and how often do we get a Mario game with a real sense of place? Unfortunately, everything else is either lacking polish or misguided.
The FLUDD feels clumsy. Cleaning is tedious. The platforms and jumping targets are narrow, and misses are harshly punished.
I love the ideas, the willingness to do something different. But most lessons here are on what not to do.
